Lucena cops bust ‘Akyat-Bahay Gang’


LUCENA City -- Police yesterday arrested four young men and recovered P100,000 worth of valuables which they allegedly robbed from a female teacher, during follow-up operation in Jael Subd., Bgy. Ibabang Iyam, here.

City police head Supt. Ramon Balauag, who led the operation, identified the suspects as Jeffrey Flores, 21, Daniel Cabile, 27, Jonathan Cadag, 22, and Rondick San Andres, all of Jael Subd.

Balauag said the suspects barged into the house of Loida Luangco Tabernilla, 41, teacher, in Pleasant Ville Subd., Bgy. Ilayang Iyam, at around 2 a.m. yesterday.

He said the suspects destroyed the padlock of the main door and took away Tabernilla’s Akira DVD portable player, Myphone cellphone, Creative digicamera and assorted pieces of jewelry worth P100,000.

Upon learning of the incident after an hour, Balauag said Tabernilla immediately informed the police station.

Acting on the report, police quickly conducted a follow-up operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen items, he said.

He said they also recovered a laptop (Sony), a portable DVD (Akira), and a Samsung TV in another follow-up operation at the house of Flores in Jael Subd.

During investigation, another member, a certain De Leon, was in charged of selling their loot.

In a phone interview, Balauag said the arrested suspects are believed to be responsible for the series of robbery incidents in Pleasant Ville Subd. and adjacent villages outside the city proper.

He said Cabile is one of the suspects in the killing last February 11 at Ruanto Compound, Bgy. Ibabang Iyam, of a certain Ernesto Frias.
