3 killed in STAR Tollway mishap


A SPEEDING trailer truck bumped tlancailling three passengers of the ill-fated vehicle on the spot.

Police Regional Office 4-A director Chief Supt. James Andres Melad identified the fatalities as Flordelina Espiritu, 52, a nun of the Three Kings Parish Council; Jasmine Liwag, 35, an employee of the same parish and one ‘Emily.’

Espiritu and Liwag died while being taken to the Mary Mediatrix Hospital in Lipa City while ‘Emily’ died on the spot, her body found stuck at the front seat of the pick-up.

Melad said Larry Mendoza, 46, the driver of the Nissan Frontier (CRR-986) and another passenger, Maribel Gervacio, 45, also an employee of the Three Kings Parish, are still undergoing treatment.

Investigation conducted by the Malvar Municipal Police Station showed that the trailer truck loaded with tons of dried corn from Pangasinan and being driven by Vicent Lampa, 27, of Cordon, Isabela, was traversing the highway from Tanauan City to Lipa City when it accidentally bumped the rear portion of the pick-up at Bgy. San Andres, Malvar, at 6:15 a.m. Lampa and his passengers were unhurt.

Melad said charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and serious physical injuries will be filed against the truck driver.
