A TOTAL of 3,328 families composed of 13,327 persons were evacuated to safer grounds as flash flood hit Zamboanga province in Mindanao the other night.
This was confirmed yesterday by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Executive Director Benito Ramos.
Ramos said the flash flood was triggered by continuous rainfall brought by low pressure area in the region.
Ramos said 3,263 families or 13,053 persons were affected from Bgys. Barcelona, Oyan, Opao, Ba-ao, Burgos, Sulangon, Polo, Tamion, Diwa-an, Simonoc, Owaon and Ilayan in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte, as the river in the province overflowed.
Six houses were totally destroyed and 13 were damaged.
Ramos said since Friday evening, the national highway in the province had also been closed and not passable to any type of vehicle due to flash flood. Zaida delos Reyes-Palanca
