SINABI ni Tampakan municipal environment officer Eileen Estrada na pinaigting ng kanilang local government unit (LGU) ang pagsisikap laban sa small-scale mining sa kanilang lugar makaraan ang pagguho ng lupa kamakailan sa Pantukan, Compostela Valley.
“Pinangunahan ng aming alkalde ang pagsisikap para mapigil ang small-scale mining sa tulong ng puwersa ng mga barangay at pulisya,” ani Estrada.
Maraming namatay sa landslide kamakailan sa Pantukan, Compostela Valley, na isinisi sa iligal na small-scale mining activities sa lugar.
Gayunman, inamin ni Estrada na masyado silang nasaktan sa hindi pagkakaloob sa aplikasyon para sa environmental compliance certificate (ECC) ng panukalang Tampakan mining project at ang mga talakayan sa planong moratorium ng South Cotabato sa large-scale mining sa lalawigan sa kabila ng kanilang pagsisikap na labanan ang mga aktibidades sa iligal na pagmimina.
“Ginagamit ng mga namumuhunan sa iligal na aktibidades na ito ang isyu sa hindi pagkakaloob ng ECC sa Tampakan project at ang mining moratorium para magtrabaho sa kanila ang mga residente,” ani Estrada.
Sinabi ni Estrada na hindi ito nakatutulong dahil ang mataas na presyo sa bilihan ng ginto sa Tampakan ay nakatutukso lalo kung ikokonsidera ang kakulangan sa oportunidad para sa kabuhayan sa kabundukan.
