AN unidentified suspect shot dead a female regional official of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) the other night inside her office in Cagayan.
Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Chief Supt. Agrimero Cruz Jr. identified the victim as Melania Bitlon Dirain, 46, specialist 2 of Community Environment and Natural Office (CENRO), in Sanchez Mira, Cagayan.
Reports reaching Camp Crame showed the incident occurred at around 7:47 p.m. inside the victim’s office located at CENRO building, Sanchez Mira.
Investigators said the victim was busy working when the suspect entered her office and shot her, killing her on the spot. The suspect quickly fled.
Recovered at the crime scene were four empty shells and three deformed slugs for caliber .45 pistol.
The motive and identities of the suspects are still being investigated, in coordination with the DENR.
