Gun ban up in Baguio City

PHILIPPINE National Police chief Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome ordered the temporary suspension of gun-carrying privileges in Baguio City to avoid violence during the observance of the Panagbenga Festival.

Bartolome ordered Cordillera Police Regional Office director Chief Supt. Benjamin B. Magalong to enforce a gun ban in Baguio City for 24 days starting Feb. 10 to March 4.

The move aims to ensure a peaceful and orderly celebration of the Panagbenga Festival and to keep it free from any firearms-related incident.

The order said only members of the PNP, Armed Forces and other law enforcement agencies who are on official duties and in agency-prescribed uniform will be allowed to carry firearms.

Bartolome emphasized that no exemptions will be granted to anybody. He ordered Magalong to strictly implement the firearm ban through the Police Integrated Patrol System  by conducting checkpoint operations, LOI SITA/Oplan Bakal, mobile/beat patrol and other police security operations.
