BALER, Aurora -- Two environmentalist group checkpoints against illegal logging in Dingalan, Maria Aurora and Dipaculao have been removed from the provincial government jurisdiction due to lack of funds.
The Noble Blue Falcons Environmentalists and Peace Crusaders (NBFEPC) and Guardian Inc. members are no longer members of the “Task Force Sagip Kalikasan,” the special body created two years ago by Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo to check on illegal loggers composed of the Department of Envronment and Natural Resources (DENR), military, police and NGOs.
Sangguniang Panlalalwigan Member Phillip “Butch” Bautista said the provincial government had already terminated the services of the members in the task force since last month because the capitol could no longer subsidize their operations.
Bautista said the checkpoints are mandated to check on violators of environmental laws. The provincial government employed members of NBEEPC and Guardian Inc. as casual employees assign at the checkpoints in Canili, Maria Aurora, Sitio Calaocan, Dinadiawan, Bgy. Tanauwan in Dingalan and Sitio Kalaocan in Dipaculao.
He said the removal of NGO members from the task force was based on recommendation of ENRO chief Ma. Teresa de Luna due to the reduction of the province’s internal revenue allotment (IRA).
