POLICE will continue to secure the Makati City Hall to enforce peace and order in the wake of the Court of Appeals’ ruling which granted Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay’s petition for a writ of preliminary injunction extending the temporary restraining order on his suspension for an indefinite period, officials said yesterday.
Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Supt. Generoso R. Cerbo Jr. said police will remain neutral and apolitical in the area but still has to maintain its presence in the city hall to prevent the possibility that supporters of Mayor Binay and Vice Mayor Romulo “Kid” Peña may figure in a clash in the aftermath of the CA ruling.
“Our men will have to be there to enforce the law and see to it that trouble will not break out, that nobody will be harmed and that peace and order will remain in the area,” said Cerbo.
He said PNP officer-in-charge Deputy Director General Leonardo A. Espina and National Capital Region Police Office chief Director Carmelo E. Valmoria issued the instruction to the Southern Police District headed by Chief Supt. Henry Rañola.
