TEN Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency tipsters went home P4.6 million richer yesterday after giving the tips that allowed the PDEA and its support agencies to smash two secret shabu laboratories, seize nearly P3 billion worth of the so-called ‘poor man’s cocaine’  and arrest a number of foreign drug personalities since last year.
PDEA chair, Undersecretary Arturo G. Cacdac Jr. said the 10 informants got the monetary reward under the PDEA Operation: Private Eye (OPE), a reward and incentive scheme designed to encourage private citizens to report any suspected illegal drug activities in their community.
He identified the civilian informants only through their codenames  Axcel, Noy, Tolendoy, Paulo, Abel, Brix, Coleen Sarmiento, Cold Ice, Ice and Jun. The 10 wore masks during the awarding ceremony to protect their identities and keep them from reprisals from captured drug personalities.
Cacdac said the 10 provided positive information that led to the arrest of several local and foreign drug personalities, the confiscation of voluminous amount of shabu and the dismantling of two large-scale shabu facilities.

He added that the OPE Rewards Committee composed of members from the academe, non-government organizations, law enforcement, religious and business sectors approved the resolution granting a total of P4,691,467.50 monetary rewards to the informants following a careful deliberation.
Among the informants, “Jun” received the biggest reward of P1,929,889.61.  His information relayed to the PDEA Regional Offices 2 and PDEA National Capital Region resulted in the dismantling of a secret shabu facility in Barangay Newagac in Gattaran, Cagayan where 260.5 kilograms of shabu worth over P1.3 billion were seized and five suspects were arrested last February 26.
On the other hand,  “Ice” received P693,130.34 for providing the  information to the Philippine National Police Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force headed by Senior Superintendent Bartolome C. Tobias which enabled the AIDSOTF to recover 38.65 kilos of shabu worth nearly P200 million from a drug courier during an operation in Barangay Sto. Niño, Parañaque City last January 5.
The amount of P612,917.40 was awarded to “Cold Ice,” the man who provided the information to the Quezon City Police District’s Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group that enabled the QCPD men under Chief Supt. Joel D. Pagdilao to arrest five drug traffickers and confiscate 9,308.34 grams of shabu worth P50 million during an entrapment operation in Bgy. Loyola Heights, QC last January 30.
“Coleen Sarmiento” got P500,000 after he supplied information to the National Bureau of Investigation that enabled the NBI operatives to confiscate 17.0195 kilograms of shabu worth P80 million and arrest six foreign nationals during a raid on a secret drug facility in Camiling, Tarlac on November 6 last year.
A total of P333,588.78 was awarded to “Brix” whose anti-drug information relayed to Manila Police District led in the confiscation of 4,971.8 grams of shabu worth  P25 million and the arrest of one drug suspect during an anti-narcotics operation in Ermita, Manila on May 20, 2014.
“Abel” got a total of P263,843.19 for providing information to the PNP-AIDSOTF which enabled the PNP operatives to arrest four drug dealers who yielded 3,994.63 grams of shabu worth P20 million in  Western Bicutan, Taguig City on October 23, 2014. “Paulo” received P190,252.24 after supplying information to the QC-DAIDSOTG which led to the seizure of 4,896.61 grams of shabu worth P20 million and the arrest of one foreigner during a buy-bust operation in Bgy.
