Women’s group elated

SUPPORT for the controversial Reproductive Health Bill continues to grow with major decision makers of the country joining the fray.

The Democratic Socialist Women of the Philippines expressed elation over the position of Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson to support the RH bill which came after President Benigno Simeon Aquino pushed for the passage of the bill.

Noting that the Department of Labor and Employment is also backing the bill, the DSWP said support for the RH bill was swelling despite the constant below-the-belt attacks by some Catholic bishops, priests and lay leaders.

DSWP, a national group of women working in grassroots communities, has been in the forefront of doing advocacy work for the RH bill since it was first filed in Congress.

Despite being labelled by anti-RH groups as abortionists, killers, anti-life, anti-family and even Satanic, national chairperson, Elizabeth Angsioco, as well as some of DSWP’s community leaders, remains undaunted in working to ensure RH programs will finally be implemented especially in impoverished areas where they are most needed.
