MPS, Diliman in big starts

MANILA Patriotic School  opened its campaign in the 2017 Youth  Basketball  Cup with back-to-back victories over Ateneo de Manila and Notre Dame at the Diliman  Preparatory School in Commonwealth Ave., Diliman, Quezon City last Jan. 21-22.

Gio von Alec Santos  came through with  23 points 10 rebounds  and five assists to lead Manila Patrotic School to 94-57 victory over Ateneo de Manila  in the boys 17 yars old and under category last Jan. 21.
   
Andrei Philip Romenez  finished with 21points,nine rebounds, three assists and three steals in  Manila Patriotic’s  83-43 triumph over Notre Dame the following day.
   
Both Santos and Romenez were voted as Best Player of the Game.
   
Sharing the limelight were  Diliman Preparatory School, which  whipped  Santo Niño of Novaliches School, 111-48, In the boys 13 years old and under  division; and  DPS, which outsteadied Sto. Nino, 80-75, in the 15 years old and under category last Jan. 21.
   
Jake Corpuz  led the way for DPS with 15 points  five rebounds  and two steals.
   
In the 15 under, Raven Gio Charles Bajar made his presence felt  for the Bleu Dragons with 29 points , five assists, four rebounds  and three steals
   
Last Jan.22,  Notre Dame  overwhelmed  Sto. Nino, 112-47, in the boys 13 under; and  Sto. Niño subdued  DPS, 97-60, in  the boys 15 under.
   
A total of  23  teams are  seeing action in the tournament organized by  DPS, headed by  former Sen.  Nikki  Coseteng  and veteran coach Rensy  Bajar  and  sponsored  by Gerry’s Grill, Gatorade,  Jolibee and Rebisco.
   
17 years old and under -- Ateneo, Diliman Prep School, Adamson, Sacred  Heart Academy-Novaliches,  St. Joseph School of Novaliches,   Notre Dame,  Manila  Patriotic School, Foothils Christian School and St.Patrick.       
   
15 and under -- Diliman  Prep, Sacred  Heart-Novaliches, Santo Nino, Escuela de Sophia  of  Caloocan,  King’s Montessori, Notre Dame and IBC Club.
