Four suspected high-value targets (HVT) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) were killed in an armed encounter with combined elements of the Regional Intelligence Division (RID), Batangas Police Intelligence Branch (PIB), Provincial Public Safety Company and Calamba police at the suspects’ hideout in Parian, Calamba City, yesterday morning.
A report submitted to Calabarzon police director Chief Supt. Valfie Tabian identified the slain suspects as Arnulfo de Silva, alias Banker, leader of the group; Emman Cabrera, Renando Vergara and an unidentified companion.
Initial reports said that at about 7 a.m., the raiding team, armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Juanita Areta of Batangas, arrested De Silva for his involvement in the killing of former Supt. Rodney Ramirez.
Records showed that Ramirez was riding his bicycle on July 12, 2011 in Taal, Batangas, when the suspect and his companions peppered him with bullets.
It was learned that the suspects were also involved in illegal drug activities in Batangas and Laguna.
During the operation, the suspects and his companion, instead of giving up, shot it out with the lawmen, killing them.
Recovered at the scene were two cal. .38, two cal. .45, hand grenade, five plastic sachets of suspected shabu.
