FIVE persons, two of them minors, were arrested by patrolling policemen in Santa Maria, Bulacan for their involvement in the manufacture of illegal fireworks on Thursday, Bulacan police director Senior Supt. Romeo M. Caramat Jr. said yesterday.
Caramat said the operation was part of their ongoing campaign against persons involved in illegal manufacture of fireworks and pyrotechnics in the province which since July has been hit by two deadly firecracker explosions that left scores dead and wounded.
The five, three of them identified as Edwin del Rosario, 40, Rolly Roxas, 32, and Jayr Asi, 26, were apprehended in Bgy. Pulong Buhangin by members of the Santa Maria Municipal Police Station. The identities of the two 15-year-old neighbors of the suspects in Sitio Manggahan were withheld.
Caramat said the five were placed under arrest for manufacturing illegal fireworks and firecrackers, including the banned ‘Sawa, 5-Star and Kwitis.’
Recovered during the operation were chemicals used in making fireworks, including sulfur, colorato and aluminum and finished Sawa and 5-Star products and other raw materials.
Caramat said the powder mixture ready for loading were disposed by the police while the chemicals were placed under the safekeeping of a local chemical dealer.
