Katrina Halili Katrina Halili

KATRINA Halili maybe one of the most hated contravidas today on local TV because of her effective portrayal of the evil and manipulative Scarlet in “Sa Piling ni Nanay”, but off cam, she’s a devoted and doting mother ni her only daughter, Katie.

“Ang sarap kaya maging nanay,” says Katrina. “My daughter gave a positive direction to my life. She made my life complete. Sa lahat ng ginagawa ko ngayon, ang iniisip ko lagi, ‘yung makakabuti para sa kanya, to her future.”

It’s because of Katie that she is putting love on the back burner. “Okay na ‘yung walang love-love. Mas priority ko na talaga ang daughter ko. And my career. Sila ang nagbibigay ng fulfillment sa buhay ko these days.”

In “Sa Piling ni Nanay”, Katrina as Scarlet continues to wreak havoc on the life of Yasmien Kurdi as Ysabel who is in jail. She orders someone named Rose to poison Yasmien but this did not succeed. Yasmien ends up in the hospital and Jillian Ward as Katherine visits her but they don’t get to see each other.

Rose tries to strangle Yasmien but the prison mayora, who is paid by Gabby Eigenmann as Benedict to protect her, comes along and rescues her. Mark Herras as Jonas has a heart problem and agrees to wed Katrina, but on their wedding day, Gabby planted guns in Katrina’s car and she’s arrested by cops. She ends up in the same jail where Yasmien is and they have another face off and more catfights that viewers of their hit soap just enjoy to watch.

KEAN Cipriano says he really wanted to be a lawyer before, but he jokes that he made “a campus tour”, shifting from one course to another before he forayed into becoming the vocalist of Callalily and later ventured into acting.  He proved to be in demand as an actor.
For this year alone, Kean did a total of seven movies: “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank 2” (an official entry in Metro filmfest), “Mano Po 7: Chinoy”, “That Thing Called Tanga Na”, “Love is Blind”, “Triptiko”, “Echorsis” and the barkada movie, “Bar Boys”, which will be shown in theaters on December 2. So does he consider himself now more of an actor than a rock band vocalist?

“I enjoy acting but I’m still a full-fledged musician,” he says. “Sa singing and music ako nagsimula, so first love ko pa rin ‘yan. I’m just grateful that doors also opened for me to show that I can also act.”

How is it working with Rocco Nacino, Carlo Aquino and Enzo Pineda in “Bar Boys”, directed by Kip Oebanda?         “I had so much fun working with these guys. Masaya kami sa set. Our director is young and very cool. Law students kami rito at maganda rin ang role ko as the one who sa first year pa lang namin sa law school, bumagsak na ako, pero isinisingit ko pa rin ang sarili ko sa barkada kahit out of place na ako. In the end, may magandang mangyayari sa’kin in the story kasi magkakaroon ako ng career change. Kung ano yun, you have to watch the movie para malaman nyo.”
So how is it being married to Chynna Ortaleza and being dad to their daughter? “As much as possible. I don’t want to talk about my family life but we’re happy. Masaya maging dad and I’m thankful to be blessed with a beautiful woman, a beautiful human being. She’s the woman of my dreams. At the end of the day, I’m sleeping with my best friend, kaya wala na akong mahihiling pa.”

JAKE Vargas is glad to do a heavy drama like the afternoon soap “Oh My Mama” while he still has a long-running sitcom like “Pepito Manaloto” where he gets to do comedy. “I guess I’m so blessed to be given the opportunity para maipakitang I can do both drama and comedy,” he says when we visited him on the set of “Oh My Mama” which will end its telecast next week.
His leading lady, Inah de Belen, has denied reports that they’re already on. What can he say about this?                 “Totoo namang wala kaming relasyon kaya natatawa lang kami sa mga balita.”
Folks say they’re perfect with each other as they’re both good looking and petite. What does he personally think of Inah? “Ganun ba, bagay ba kami? Thank you. Personally, okay si Inah. Very professional at maalaga nga siya sa set, e.         Kapag lunch or dinner break na, she never forgets na yayain akong kumain.
