HERE’S good news to local basketball fans.
The Philippines, represented by the Pinoy Youth Dreamers, will participate in the fourth International High School basketball championships scheduled Nov. 26-Dec. 3 at the CRC Kulim in Kedah, Malaysia.
Headed by PYD president Beaujing Acot and coach Mario Fernandez, the PYD team will play against select teams from Australia, Macau, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Brunei and host Malaysia.
This will be the third time that PYD will represent the country in the annual competition.
“We lost to host Malaysia in the final last year. But I hope we can do better this year. The boys have prepared long and hard for this tournament,” said Acot.
“I believe the team is ready to battle and bring the championship for we have been practicing for almost four months now,” said manager Pax Pelipell.
The members of the team are Angelo Aniñon (Pasig Catholic College), Sandre Banluta (Siena- Taytay) , Jose Andres De Guia (Pateros Catholic School), Justin Mark Ollesca (Pasig Catholic ), Ernest Cesar Oliveros (Siena-Taytay), Jan Daniel Geronimo (Pasig Catholic College), Elchard Santos (La Immaculada Concepcion), Angelo Masagca (San Sebastian College Recoletos), Charles Palaspas (Pasig Catholic), Carlos Miguel Jacob (Pasig Catholic College), DwayneBrentFabroa (St. Margaret), Allen Valeriano (St. Lawrence Foundation ), Alexander Perez (La Consolation College), Gerben Baguhin (San Beda College Rizal), Rufino Sablaon lll (Jesus the Loving Sheperd Christian College), Kurt Teaño (St. Raphael Mary School), Gabriel Douglas Yim (De La Salle Antipolo), Aries Jay Paunil (La Salle Antipolo), Paul Raganit (San Sebastian), and Kenneth Gonzaga (La Consolation).
Aside from Acot and Fernanddez, the other officials of the team are Vengie Gabales, deputy coach; and Lemerell Julia, Edgar Valeriano, Roy Asis and Glenda Villaflor, assistant coaches.
The team is scheduled to leave on Nov. 25 and will return on Dec. 4.
