SAN Jose City, Nueva Ecija -- A former municipal mayor in Nueva Ecija and a female trader posted bail on Tuesday after surrendering themselves to the police in connection with a graft complaint filed against them before the Sandiganbayan.

City police commander Supt. Reynaldo SG. dela Cruz identified those who surrendered as ex-Lupao Mayor Richard M. Ramos, 46, and businesswoman Sheila Marie Jacalan, 45, both of Poblacion North, Lupao town.
Ramos ran under the Liberal Party ticket and served as mayor for two terms from 2010-2016.
Dela Cruz said the former mayor and the businesswoman gave themselves up to the police after an arrest warrant was issued against them for violation of Republic Act 3019 (Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act) by Rodolfo A. Ponferrada, chair of San-diganbayan Sixth Division, on Oct. 24, 2016.
Dela Cruz said the arrest warrant was obtained by his office on November 8 and the Sandiganbayan recommended a bail of P30,000 each for their temporary liberty.
He said both suspects were immediately released after posting bail before Judge Cynthia Martinez-Florendo, of the San Jose City Regional Trial Court Branch 39.
