MAJOR jeepney groups filed a petition for a P1 fare hike with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) yesterday.
An hour earlier, a taxi group also filed a petition asking the board to lift the P10 discount in taxi meter.
Efren de Luna, national president of Alliance of Concerned Transport Organizations (ACTO) and Roberto Martin, national president of (PASANG MASDA), said their petitions, if granted, would cover Metro Manila, Central Luzon (Region 3) and Southern Tagalog (Region 4) only.
They said their members have been complaining of the skyrocketing prices of petroleum products. The group also blamed the nonstop increase of prices of spare parts that have gone to 17 percent.
Meanwhile in a separate petition, Fermin Octobre, national president of 35,000- strong Drivers Unite for Mass Progress Equality and Reality (DUMPER) said that the P10 discount in taxi fare have been a burden to most taxi drivers.
“Panahon na po alisin na ito, bigat na bigat na po kami sa P10 discount sa taxi meter, wala namang bawas ang boundary namin,” Octobre said.
