TWO tourists lost their valuables to holdupppers while they were promenading in separate places in Manila the other day.

The victims who filed a complaint at the Manila Police District-General Assignment and Investigation Section (MPD-GAIS) were identified as Quang Minh Tran, 29, a Vietnamese-Australian, of Seventh Avenue, Campsie, Australia, and currently staying at Casa Bocobo Hotel; and Maura Numi, 33, a Finland national billeted at the Twin Towers, both in Malate, Manila.

Tran told the police that at around 8 p.m., he was talking to someone on his cellphone when two riding-in-tandem suspects aboard a black motorcycle grabbed his backpack near the hotel where he was staying.  The bag, he said, contained 200 Australian dollars, an MX watch worth $1,500, a Go Pro camera worth  $500 and an  iPad worth $300.

Numi, on the other hand, was at the Remedios Circle in Malate at around 7 p.m. and was checking on his map along with a friend when he decided to place his backpack in between his feet.

It was then that three men circled them, took his bag forcibly while under threat and then fled on foot. His bag contained a laptop, a camera and a  smartphone with an accumulated worth of at least 1,000 euros.
