5 drug suspects gunned down while having shabu session in Mandaluyong
THE room was filled with the morbid scent of graveyard dirt. Heavy smoke resembling ghosts curled up in the air. Inside, four men and a woman deliriously sniffed shabu to celebrate Halloween, or the eve of the festival of souls. They never would have guessed that within minutes they would be dead too.
The five drug suspects were shot dead by armed men wearing helmets who barged into their suspects drug den on Perlas St., Block 37 Bgy. Addition Hills at around 9:30 p.m.
A report submitted to Eastern Police District (EPD) director Chief Supt. Romulo Sapitula identified the fatalities as Jennifer Discargar, 31, Manuel Evangelista, 37, Paulo Tuboroy, 24, Edgar Velarde, 31 all residents of Block 37, Bgy. Addition Hills, and Catalino Arguelies Jr., all of Bgy. Barangka Itaas, Mandaluyong City.
The five died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds in their bodies.
Senior Supt. Joaquin Alva, Mandaluyong Police chief said that Stella Evangelista, a daughter of one of the fatalities Manuel Evangelista, bared that two of the suspects wearing helmets barged into the house where the shabu session was taking place and shot the five victims repeatedly.
The four other suspects served as lookouts.
Alva said a botched drug deal or an old grudge could have been the motives behind the attack.
Alva revealed that Bgy. Addition Hills is a drug-prone area where a number of drug personalities have been killed by still unidentified suspects since July when the government declared war against drugs.
People’s Tonight gathered that the five fatalities are in the drug watch list and one of them has case pending in court.
Police recovered several empty shells from an unknown caliber, four small transparent plastic sachets of shabu, unsealed plastic sachets and drug paraphernalia.
Authorities added that the fatalities were suspected drug peddlers.
Sapitula has ordered Alva to hunt down and identify the killers.
