TUGUEGARAO -- John Joriz topped the Young Birds class, while Edison Yap dominated the Old Birds category during the third leg of the 2016 Philippine Homing Pigeon Association ((PHA) North Series here last Oct. 23.
Joriz and his PHA-16-1601287 -- a blue bar cock out of Gaby Vandenabeele X Ruthester bloodline -- submitted a speed of 1,126.925 meter per minute to clinch top honors in the Young Birds category.
Rey So and Victor Tan finished second and third, respectively.
So and PHA-16-1600581 -- a checkered hen out of Florizone Cross origin --clocked a speed of 1,125.941 meter per minute for second place, while Tan and PHA-16-1602114 -- a blue check cock out of Taiwan X Stichelbaut bloodline -- timed 1,122.721 meter per minute.
Also making it to the Top10 Young Birds are Rey So, Victor Tan, Benito Go Que, Rey So, Rey So, Rey So and Rey So.
In the Old Birds class, Yap and PHA-16-1631687 – a blue bar hen out of Pure Maurice Mattheeuws -- clocked 1,122.752 meter per minute for first place.
Paquito Ngo and PHA-15-1504069 -- a checkered cock out of Jos Van den Broucke – timed 1,111.727 meter per minute for second place, while Johnson Si and PHA-14-1403746 -- a checkered cock out of Jan Aarden X Batenburg-BD Merwe of Joel Ong -- clocked 1,111.588 meter per minute for third place.
Joining them are Winston Tiu, Anson Ong, Henry Tan, Millennium Loft, Paquito Ngo, Paul Ung and Luis Chiu.
In his report to PHA president Jaime “Jimi” Lim, race chairman Nelson Chua said a total of 762 birds out of 1, 101 birds from 63 lofts were clocked in the Young Birds series and 311 birds out of 438 birds from 37 lofts were clocked in the Old Birds category.
Last Oct. 9, Justene Garcia and Joriz shared the limelight during the opening weekend of the 2016 Philippine Homing Pigeon Association ((PHA) first leg in Munoz.
The second leg, scheduled Oct. 16 in Sta. Maria, Cagayan, was cancelled due to heavy rains brought about by typhoons Karen and Lawin.
After Tuguegarao, the PHA North Series resumes with the fourth leg in Alcala on Oct. 30; fifth leg in Gattaran on Nov. 6; sixth leg in Aparri on Nov. 13; and seventh and final leg in Sta. Ana on Nov. 20.
