ALIAGA, Nueva Ecija -- Two motorcycle-riding men were nabbed at a police checkpoint after one of them yielded illegal drugs and the other tried to prevent authorities from arresting his companion last Saturday.
Senior Insp. Wilson D. Kimmayong, chief of the Provincial Public Safety Company-Bucot patrol base, identified the arrested suspects as Jess Lugod, 27, single, driver, of Urban 4, Purok 9, Bgy. M.S. Garcia, Cabanatuan City; and his back rider as Ismael España Jr., 24, alias JR, of Purok 5, Bgy. Buha-ngin, Baler, Aurora.
They were nabbed by patrolling members of the PPSC-1st Maneuver Platoon led by SPO1 Ryan C. Brillantes after they tried to evade a police checkpoint in Purok 5, Bgy. Bucot at 4:55 p.m.
Lugod was initially nabbed after he disobeyed the order of the patrolling team to stop at the checkpoint and for not wearing halmet while driving his black Kawasaki Bajaj motorcycle.
He further got himself in deep trouble after he yielded a plastic sachet of illegal drugs during inspection.
Kimmayong said España was arrested after he prevented authorities from arresting Lugod, which is tantamount to obstruction of justice.
The arrested suspects and the confiscated pieces of evidence were turned over by the PPSC to Nueva Ecija Provincial Crime Laboratory Office in Cabanatuan City for drug testing and laboratory examination, respectively.
Separate charges for violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code (disobedience), Sections 11 and 12, Article II, RA 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) against the driver and PD 1829 (obstruction of justice) against his back rider are being readied by the PPSC for filing before the Office of the Provincial Prosecutor in Cabanatuan City.
