Malolos Bishop Emeritus Cirilo Almario has died at the age of 85.

Almario collapsed inside his room at the convent of the Religious Catechist of Mary located in Sta. Isabel, Malolos City, on Friday.

He was rushed to the city’s Graman Medical and Maternity Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival at 6:30 p.m.

The prelate had been unwell for days, complaining of pain in his feet.

A “father figure” to the clergy and many people, a priest said Almario’s death is a “great loss” to the diocese.

“He is loved by the priests in and outside the diocese. He had been fatherly to all of us, said Fr. Nick Lalog, director of the Malolos diocese’s Commission on Social Communications.
The wake started on Saturday at the theology chapel of the Immaculate Conception Major Seminary in Gui-guinto, Bulacan.
Today, a funeral procession will be held at 10 a.m. from Malolos Crossing to the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception where his remains will stay until the funeral at 2 p .m. on Wednesday.
After the Requiem Mass, the entombment of his body will take place at the crypt of the cathedral, close to the tomb of Malolos’ first bishop Manuel Del Rosario.
A native of Caridad, Cavite, Almario was ordained to the priesthood on Nov. 30, 1956 in Manila and was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Malolos on August 22, 1973.
