THE nephew and former security aide of Sen. Leila de Lima is now in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
NBI agents identified De Lima’s relative as Jose Adrian “Jad” Dera, who was also implicated in the alleged illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II confirmed that Dera has been detained by the NBI since his arrest the other day in Quezon City.
Aguirre however refused to give further details on Dera’s arrest, while the NBI was likewise tight-lipped.
During hearings at the House of Repesentatives, Dera was tagged as one of the alleged bagmen of De Lima and former Bureau of Corrections chief Franklin Bucayu.
Dera was included in the immigration lookout bulletin order against De Lima and several others.
Along with the senator he was charged with illegal drug trafficking by the Violence Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) before the Department of Justice.
