A TOTAL of 161 policemen who tested positive for drugs are facing administrative charges that may eventually lead to their dismissal from the service.
This was confirmed by Philippine National Police (PNP) Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) Executive Officer Sr. Supt. Faustino Manzanilla in a press briefing held yesterday in Camp Crame.
“These PNP personnel are now facing administrative charges and the conduct of summary hearing procedure is already in the process in order to determine the extent of administrative liability which may lead to their dismissal from the service depending upon the result of the summary hearing procedure,” Manzanilla said.
Manzanilla said that since July 1 up to October 4, 2016 a total of 150,160 policemen were subjected to random drug testing.
Of the figure, 161 policemen were found to have used illegal drugs.
Manzanilla said that these policemen were immediately relieved from their posts.
The DIDM executive director said the PNP campaign against illegal drugs targets not only civilians but also PNP personnel.
Even before President Rodrigo Duterte formally took his post as President of the country, the PNP had already strengthened its campaign against illegal drugs dubbed Oplan Double Barrel, targeting not only small time drug users and pushers but big time drug lords as well.
