UST, UP women’s beach volley teams still perfect

UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas and University of the Philippines stayed unbeaten after besting their respective foes in the women’s division of the UAAP beach volleyball tournament at the Sands SM By The Bay.

Cherry Rondina and Jem Gutierrez of the Tigresses downed Tin Tiamzon and Desiree Cheng of defending champion La Salle, 21-15, 21-16, while Diana Carlos and Arielle Estrañero of the Lady Maroons overcame Judith Abil and Angelica Dacaymat of University of the East, 21-16, 22-20.

UST and UP improved to 3-0 halfway through the elimination round.

Far Eastern University and National University, meanwhile, stayed within reach of the co-leaders after posting contrasting victories.

Bernadeth Pons and Kyla Atienza continued their rise from their season-opening loss to the Lady Spikers, as the Lady Tamaraws ripped Ateneo’s Michelle Morente and Kim Gequillana, 21-18, 21-13.
   
Aiko Urdas and Roma Doromal of the Lady Bulldogs rallied from an opening-set loss to outlast Jema Galanza and Bernadette Flora of Adamson, 20-22, 21-12, 15-12.
   
FEU and NU moved up to 2-1 slate in joint third.  The Lady Eagles and the Lady Spikers dropped at 1-2, while the Lady Falcons and the Lady Warriors are winless in three outings.
   
In the men’s division, the Growling Tigers and the Tamaraws are showing the way with three straight wins each.
