LYCEUM of Subic Bay  and  Philippine Christian University  pulled  off  contrasting victories  over  their respective  opponents to advance  to  the  quarterfinal round in the 16th  NAASCU men’s basketball tournament at the  RTU gym in Boni Ave., Mandaluyong City.

Lyceum  defeated Manuel Luis Quezon University,100-69, behind the  hot hands of  Edcel Saludo and Kevin  Pelaez  and  the  all-around  game of  Cameroonian  recruit  Pabrice Djilla to arrange a quarterfinal showdown against Philippine Merchant  Marine School  on Saturday.
   
Later, PCU held its ground to slam the door on  De Ocampo Memorial College,  96-94, in  overtime  to  reach  the  quarterfinal round against Enderun College.
   
Both PMMS and Enderun  enjoy twice-to-beat advantages over  Lyceum and PCU, respectively.
   
Saludo   finished with 18  points, while Pelaez added  17 points for the  Sharks  of  former  national  player- turned- coach Kerwin McCoy and team  owner Alfonso Borda.
   
The 6-10  Djilla  asserted  himself  in   the shaded area  for the Sharks  with  16 points and   19 rebounds.
   
Three  other players -- Allen Fomera, Carl Lumbao and Armando Timbog  --  also scored in double  figures  for Lyceum.
   
Jaymark Mallari  and Chris Bitoon  carried the  fight for  the Stallions with 20 and 17 points, respectively.
   
The   PCU-De Ocampo proved to be a thriller.
   
Yves Sazon fired 26 points as he  joined  hands with  Mike Ayonayon,  Dexter Mescallado  and  Von Tambeling  to  beat  the Cobras and  make it to the next round.
   
Fritz Gaston is the commissioner.
