4 cops, 3 civilians hurt in grenade attack

Four policemen and three civilians were hurt when a grenade lobbed by two unidentified motorcycle-riding men exploded in Bgy. Culiat, Quezon City, yesterday.

Acting Quezon City police director Senior Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar identified the injured police officers as PO3 Abdurajik Jaalin, 43, PO2 Abdulwarid Julaid, 48, SPO1 Romeo Amming, 46, all assigned at Police Security and Protection Group in Camp Crame, and Sala Uddin, 60, a retired policeman.
   
Eleazar said the four injured policemen were off-duty during the incident but they volunteered to participate in conducting “Oplan Sita/Beat Patrol”.
   
The injured civilians were identified as Khadafi Udhan, 36, Alex Taluyan, 38, and Junrey Tioc, 26.
   
According to Eleazar, a group of volunteer tribal and religious leaders, civilians, barangay patrols and police officers were about to conduct “Oplan Sita/Beat Patrol” on Libyan St., Al Salaam Mosque Compound, Bgy. Culiat, QC, when suddenly, two unidentified men on board a motorcycle stopped and hurled a grenade near the area before 1 a.m. yesterday. The grenade exploded, injuring the victims.
   
Police officers from the nearby Police Community Precinct (PCP) 3 immediately responded and rushed the victims to General Miguel Malvar Hospital.
   
“Posibleng nagalit at gumaganti na ang mga big-time drug pushers sa naturang lugar na naapek-tuhan ng pinaigting na drug campaign ng pamahalaan,” SPO2 Hassan Adi, chairman of peace and order in Salam compound said.
