ALLEGEDLY due to constant bullying from a prison mate, a 48-year-old detainee yesterday died of a heart attack inside his cell at the Manila Police District-Station 9 in Malate, Manila.

Investigation by SPO4 Genzor Vallejo and PO3 Dennis Turla of the Manila Police District-Homicide Section said the inmate was identified as Mario Santos, of  1253 B. Sevilla St., Tondo, Manila.

Before the attack, it was learned that he had been constantly bullied  by his prison mate Noriel Orberta, alias ‘Weng-Weng.

Police said Orberta would usually sit on the victim or wrap his face with anything while he was asleep.

Another inmate, Joseph Taco, called the attention of PO2 Dean Mark Regala, then the duty desk officer at the MPD-PS9, when the victim began having breathing difficulty at around 5:30 a.m. yesterday.  He was rushed to the nearest hospital to no avail.
Santos was detained in the said station last September 9 on charges of attempted extortion and usurpation of authority.
