NINETEEN chiefs of police (COP) in Caraga region were relieved from their posts for failure to perform well in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, under Oplan Double Barrel of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Caraga police director Chief Supt. Rolando Felix said he relieved the 19 COPs when they failed to reach the standard of their performance in line with the PNP goal to eradicate illegal drugs trade in their areas of responsibility.

Relieved were the COPs of Jabonga and Las Nievas in Agusan del Norte; La Paz, Agusan del Sur; Cagdianao, Libho and Loretosa Dinagat Island; Alegria, Bacuag, Malimono, San Benito, Burgos, Claver del Carmen, Gigauit Tubog; and Sta. Monica, Surigao del Norte; Tandag, Cagwait and Cantilan, Surigao del Sur.

“As a result of our validation on the performance of our chiefs of police in the implementation of Project Double Barrel as of Aug. 15, 2016, 19 out of 77 police stations performed below par,” Felix said.

Records from the Caraga region showed that from July 1 to September 12, a total of 419 drug pushers were arrested and 19 others were killed in their operation.

Law enforcers were able to seize P40,419,029.80 worth of illegal drugs.
