MORE foreign trips are set for President Rodrigo Duterte before the year ends after his successful trips to Laos for the ASEAN summit and working visit to Indonesia.
Presidential communications office (PCO) secretary Martin Andanar bared that Duterte is considering to fly either Vietnam or Thailand this month.
Also the President is expected to visit Brunei, reviving his trip which was previously cancelled in the aftermath of the deadly Davao blast.
Duterte is also attending the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders’ summit in Peru this coming November culminating with the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting on Nov.19–20.
It marks the second time Peru will be playing host to the APEC, having hosted the event previously in 2008.
Four priority areas were laid out as topics to be discussed for the 2016 APEC summit. These are human capital development, upgrading SMEs, regional food market, and regional economic integration which were chosen and built upon on the discussion from the previous APEC Summit in Peru. Theme of the 2016 APEC Summit is “Quality Growth and Human Development.
This will be the first APEC meeting for Duterte since his inauguration on June 30. It will also be the last APEC meeting for American President Barack Obama, who will step down on January 20, 2017 following the Nov. 8 , 2016 U.S. Presidential election.
