DepEd requests police presence in Davao City schools

THE Department of Education has requested for additional police presence around schools as classes resume today in Davao City following Friday’s bombing incident that killed at least 15 people and injured 67 others.

Education Secretray Leonor Magtolis Briones and members of DepEd-Region XI condemned the deadly blast at the city’s night market and all forms of violence.
“We express our deepest sympathy and condole with the bereaved families of the victims,” the DepEd said in a statement.
“Such act of violence has no place in a civilized society.
“We urge the authorities to leave no stone unturned in pursuing the perpetrators and to ensure that similar barbaric acts are prevented in the future,” it added.
The DepEd also requested for more police visibility near schools in Davao City as classes resume toady.
“We are also reminding our personnel to be continuously vigilant of their surroundings,” the DepEd said.
