AN anti-drug operative of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) was shot and wounded while grappling for the suspect’s firearm during a buy-bust operation in Bgy. Pinyahan, Quezon City.
Acting QCPD director Senior Supt. Guillermo Lorenzo T. Eleazar said the suspect, identified only as “Garry,” of NIA Napocor Squatters Area, QC, was killed during the operation.
A report gathered from the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit said the incident happened at 1:30 a.m. yesterday as Station Anti-illegal Drug operatives of QCPD Station 10 conducted a buy-bust operation on NIA Road based on information on the suspect’s illegal drug peddling activities.
A police operative acted as a poseur-buyer. During the transaction, the suspect apparently sensed that he was dealing with a policeman so he drew a gun.
One of the operatives, identified as PO3 Andrew Bautista, was shot in the left foot while grappling with the suspect. Bautista’s colleagues were forced to shoot the suspect.
The suspect and the wounded policeman were rushed to East Avenue Hospital where the suspect died while undergoing treatment.
Recovered at the crime scene were a cal. .45 pistol with chamber load, a magazine loaded with four live ammunition, a deformed fired bullet, four cartridge cases, seven heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets suspected to be shabu, a digital weighing scale, a disposable lighter, a scissors, a Cherry Mobile phone and 10 pieces of P100 bills.
The wounded policeman will be recommended for a Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting, the counterpart of the US Law Enforcement Purple Heart.
