5 p.m. - Phoenix vs Tanduay (Finals, Game 2)

(Accelerators lead series, 1-0)

PHOENIX tries to complete a season sweep of the PBA D-League championships against Tanduay as the Foundation Cup title series shifts to the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan City, Laguna today.

The Accelerators needed heroics from Mac Belo to eke out the 84-76 victory in last Thursday’s opener.
On the cusp of being the only second team in the league after NLEX to win two titles, Phoenix coach Eric Gonzales hopes that his troops will elevate their level of play when they meet Tanduay at 5 p.m.
“We have to play together. Ang pinakamahalaga sa amin is we sprint back on defense,” said Gonzales.
All-season long, the Accelerators have been banking on go-to guys Belo, Mike Tolomia, Ed Daquioag, and RR Pogoy, who all showed their worth to the lead up to the championship.
“Kahit naman struggling kung sino man sa kanila, we have to be patient because I know in the end, I have to trust them,” said Gonzales.
The Rhum Masters actually started strong in their Finals debut only to crumble down the stretch.
Coach Lawrence Chongson, though, believes that Game 1 is just a game that slipped out of Tanduay’s clutches.
“Konting polish na lang sa depensa,” said Chongson. “In this game, we were leading for more than 23 minutes. Pero sa crunch time, we missed some crucial free throws. Tingin ko naman, konting adjustments lang. Makukuha din namin ’yan.”
