estimated P7 million worth of fully-grown marijuana plants and seedlings were uprooted and destroyed by combined agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Police Regional Office 1  in Ilocos Sur this week, PDEA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña said yesterday.

The official said the marijuana eradication drive spearheaded by the PDEA Regional Office 1 headed by Director Jeoffrey Tacio with the help of the Sugpon and Santol Municipal Police Stations and the Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office led in the discovery of three huge cannabis plantation sites in Barangay Licungan, Sugpon town.

Troops uprooted nearly 30,000 fully-grown cannabis plants and over 70,000 seedlings and burned them on site. However, no arrests were made during the operation, the latest to be conducted by the PDEA in Luzon this month.

Two weeks ago, an estimated P500 million worth of marijuana plants were destroyed by combined operatives of the PDEA, the Philippine National Police and the Army during a three-day massive eradication operation in Mount Chumanchil located in Bgy. Loccong in Tinglayan, Kalinga province.
