Drug ‘reformist’ killed by Ecija RIT gunmen

BONGABON, Nueva Ecija -- A drug surrenderee, who just took an oath to change for the better under Oplan Tokhang, was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-riding men before midnight here Saturday.

Police identified the slain victim as Alberto Constantino, 46, alias Betong, married, jobless, of Mabini St., Bgy. Santor, this town. Two of the victim’s friends, Anselmo Andres and Joel Zabat, witnessed the shooting which occurred at 11:40 p.m.
   
They were at the terrace of the house owned by Ruben Andres talking to each other when the two suspects suddenly appeared. One of the them fired shots at Constantino, killing him on the spot.
   
Police said the victim was number seven in the top 10 provincial list of drug personalities.
   
Constantino just gave himself up to Oplan Tokhang that was conducted in their barangay recently.
   
The said police operational plan was launched to purge the streets of drug users and pushers in consonance with President Duterte’s staunch position against anti-illegal drugs.
