A SNATCHER was wounded when responding policemen shot him right after he victimized a 15-year-old female student, who was aboard a passenger jeepney in Sta. Cruz, Manila, the other night.

The suspect, identified as Cesar Vinarao, 21, of 2637 Lico St., Tondo, Manila, is still in the hospital where he was treated for wounds while charges of robbery- snatching and assault upon an agent of person in authority are being readied for filing against him.

SPO3 Rodrigo Reyes of the Manila Police District-Station 3 said that at around 6:45 p.m., victim Jay-Ann Montejo, 15,  was aboard a jeepney with the Pritil-Tayuman route, along with her classmate Kelly Ann Osita, when the suspect grabbed her cellphone while she was texting as the jeep reached Oroquieta Street in Sta. Cruz.

At that time, PO2 Frederick Pastor of the MPD-Station 9, who was behind the jeep on his motorcycle on his way home, saw what happened and chased the victim until he got cornered between Yuseco and Hererra Streets in Sta. Cruz.

Pastor said he introduced himself as a policeman and told the suspect to give up but the latter attacked him with a knife, so the policeman had no choice but to shoot the suspect, whom he hit in the left side of the body.

It was also Pastor who took the suspect to the hospital when he fell down due to a bullet wound.
