CABANATUAN City -- A suspected big-time drug trafficker was nabbed last Saturday following a raid on his apartment which yielded an estimated P500,000 worth of metamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu, a hand grenade, a cal. .45 pistol and several drug paraphernalia.
Supt. Ponciano P. Zafra, newly-installed city police commander, identified the arrested suspect as Candido Bernabe, 56, alias Canding, of Ortiz Apartment, Purok 2, Bgy. Bantug Norte, who is now locked up at the city police detention cell.
Zafra said his men swooped down on the suspect’s lair at 9:15 a.m. armed with a search warrant issued by Cabanatuan City Regional Trial Court Branch 34 Judge Anna Marie C. Joson-Viterbo.
Police recovered from the suspect 29 plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing 250 grams with a street value of P500,000, a cal. .45 pistol, a fragmentation grenade, several ammunition for assorted guns, eight cellphones, cash and other paraphernalia.
Also seized were identification cards of the suspect showing him as a confidential agent of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Nueva Ecija and a Lambat-Sibat volunteer.
The suspect is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 9165 and RA 10591 and illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives.
