THE security preparation for the arraignment of former President and Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in connection with the electoral sabotage case was already in place as early as yesterday at the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.
Even if Pasay RTC Judge Jesus Mupas of Branch 112 does not want to confirm if the arraignment will be held today all indication and information from the police who refused to be named confirmed that the arraignment will be held Thursday.
Aside from this, the National Capital Region Police has issued an order in connection with the security preparations for the arraignment that include banning all members of the media from the court room because it is very small.
In the advisory that was distributed by NCRPO Public Information Office (PIO) chief Sr. Supt. Danilo Pecana, yesterday they will be assisted by the PIO of Camp Crame in the area where mediamen will be allowed to stay.
While there is no threat received by the police against the former president they are expecting the arrival of GMA supporters and anti-GMA groups.
Former Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos could not hide his disgust yesterday after his bail petition was not acted upon by the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.
Abalos even let out a curse when he emerged from the court room yesterday after almost two hours of court deliberation on his petition for bail.
Pasay RTC Judge Eugenio Dela Cruz of Branch 117 re-scheduled the hearing on Abalols’ motion for bail to March 5 which will coincide with his arraignment after the prosecution was given three days to present their witnesses against the former Comelec chief in the alleged 2007 election sabotage.
Because of the decision of the judge upholding the request of the prosecution to present their witnesses the bail petition was not heard yesterday.
