Lacson: Senate has remained impartial

SENATOR-Judge Panfilo Lacson yesterday said the impeachment court has remained impartial in the course of trial and some senator-judges have been dredging questions on both prosecution and defense.

Lacson made the reaction to the complaint of the defense panel which said that five of the senator-judges have been throwing sympathy to the prosecution. The five senator-judges who are allegedly biased are Senators Franklin Drilon, Kiko Pangilinan, Serge Osmena, TG Guingona and Alan Peter Cayetano.

“A lot of it has to do with perception. Kung ganun lang naman ang kanilang perception at sa kanilang opinion eh nakikilahok ‘yung ibang senador pero kung hindi rin nila napapansin. May mga senador din naman na ang linya ng pagtatanong parang kumikiling naman sa depensa. Bakit hindi naman nila binabanggit ‘yun?” said Lacson.

He added that it’s too early to judge the impeachment court because based on the pieces of evidence that were presented by the prosecution, Chief Justice Renato Corona has a lot of explaining to do especially on the ground of undeclared Statement of Assets and Liabilities and Networth (SALN).

Lacson also wanted to see the memorandum of defense regarding its accusation of mistrial and that the right of Corona in due process was violated because of the alleged partisanship inside the impeachment court.                                Marlon Purificacion
