Oman to implement PDEA system

CUSTOMS officials of the Sultanate of Oman have visited the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency headquarters to get  a first-hand look at  how the National Single Window or NSW system is being implemented by the lead anti-drug agency and make it a role model in their country.

PDEA chair Undersecretary Jose S. Gutierrez, Jr. said the Customs Sultanate of Oman is planning to implement an integrated Customs Management using the NSW system and requested a visit to government agencies implementing the Philippine National Single Window.

“We are honored that out of the 40 government agencies implementing the PNSW system, PDEA is considered one of the ‘showcases’ to foreign counterparts for its fast adoption of the system,” Gutierrez said.

In 2011, the high-client satisfaction brought about by the relatively hassle-free streamlined procedures and accelerated processing of applications for permits and other authorizations required prior to undertaking a trade transaction, distinguished PDEA- Compliance Service as one of the government agencies implementing the PNSW with best practice.

Director Helen Maita Reyes, PDEA-CS Director, said that PNSW has brought about a significant economic transformation in the processing and approval of import and export permit authorizations which is internet-based. It is a user-friendly system which reduced to zero complaint from clients.

Colonel Yahya Mosa Ibrahim Almaymani, head of the Omani delegation of the Customs Sultanate of Oman, was particularly satisfied with the PDEA-CS operation during the “system walk-through” as they personally observed how the PDEA Dangerous Drug Regulation Officers facilitate actual transactions with clients using the PNSW.

Chris Lewis-Jones, Director for Project Management of Crown Agents-Manila, who manages the PNSW project, commended PDEA for its ability to proactively integrate its processes to the PNSW system in such a short time and the level of competence demonstrated by PDEA-CS personnel in its PNSW implementation.
