MORE than 40,000 wanted criminals were arrested by agents of the Philippine National Police over the past two years where there has been a steady decline in crime trend, PNP chief, Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome told President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III yesterday.
According to the PNP chief, the 40,653 offenders wanted by the law for involvement in various criminal cases were rounded up by different police units in line with its continuing operation to account for wanted persons dubbed LOI Manhunt “Charlie” by the PNP.
The continuing crackdown against wanted persons nationwide was among the salient points of a report rendered to President Aquino by Gen. Bartolome in yesterday’s command conference in Camp Crame attended by members of the PNP Command Group, Directorial Staff, Regional Directors and Directors of National Support Units.
High in the agenda of the PNP Command Conference with the Chief Executive are prevailing issues and concerns on peace and order including street crime, firearms control and internal security.
According to Bartolome, the arrested wanted persons are respondents in criminal cases and are the subject of warrants of arrest issued by the different branches of the judiciary.
Among other items in a briefing presented to the Chief Executive, Bartolome underscored the PNP accomplishments in stemming the tide of criminality since 2009.
The Chief PNP said a decreasing trend was recorded from a Total Crime Volume of 502,665 cases in 2009 to only 246,958 in 2011, indicating a steady decline in the commission of crime with an average monthly decrease of 3.57% until the end of 2011.
