THE PRESIDENT of the PSBank Katipunan Branch yesterday denied that the leaked bank account documents came from their office.
During the 15th day of the impeachment trial, Pascual Garcia, PSBank president, said he does not recognize the specimens presented by the prosecution.
The prosecution had claimed the account had an initial deposit of “$700K”, which it interpreted to be $700,000 (around P38 million in October 2008). The prosecution alleged this was not declared in Corona’s Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net- worth (SALN).
Because of this, Senate President and Presiding Judge Juan Ponce Enrile asked where the document came from.
Garcia, meanwhile, answered that he has no idea about it.
“The court is in possession of information regarding the manner of this leak, the release of this document. You better be candid to us, because if you don’t, we will be forced to apply the rules of this court,” Enrile said.
The bank filed on Wednesday a petition asking that the SC quash the summonses on the bank records of the magistrate.
“With all due respect, I will not testify because I will break the law,” he said.
The Foreign Currency Deposit Act specifically states that a disclosure of a foreign currency bank account can only be made upon written permission from the depositor.
