4 SC justices requested to testify in impeach trial

FOUR Supreme Court associate justices were requested by the prosecution panel to testify and bring documents related to the high court’s decision on the case of the Flight Attendants and Stewards Association of the Philippines (FASAP) against Philippine Airlines in the impeachment trial against Chief Justice Renato Corona.

This was based on the request filed by the prosecution and asked the impeachment court to issue subpoena ad testificandum and subpoena duces tecum requiring SC Associate Justice Martin Villarama, SC Associate Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, SC Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes, and SC Associate Justice Presbitero Velasco Jr. to attend.

The prosecution said it wants the justices to appear on a date and time set by the impeachment court.

“They will testify on the participation of Chief Justice Renato Corona in the October 4, 2011 Supreme Court en banc session, specifically in the deliberations of A.M. No. 11-10-1-SC...and the action that was made by the Supreme Court relative to such case,” said the request of the prosecution.      Marlon Purificacion
