Sarmiento tops Battle of the Generals for 2nd year


THE Philippine National Police’s 4th-highest official, Deputy Director General Emelito T. Sarmiento, topped the 2012 Battle of the Generals hosted by President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III last Saturday and Sunday.

For the 2nd consecutive year, Sarmiento, the PNP Chief of Directorial Staff, a classmate at the Philippine Military Academy Class 1980 of PNP chief, Director General Nicanor A. Bartolome emerged as the individual aggregate champion in the shooting competition held at the NCRPO Firing Range in Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan, Taguig City, besting his rivals from the PNP, the Armed Forces, Coast Guard, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the Presidential Security Group.

The PNP team composed of Gen. Bartolome, Sarmiento, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief, Director Samuel D. Pagdilao Jr. and PNP Intelligence Group director, Chief Superintendent Manuel R. Barcena; PNP Training Institute director, Chief Supt. Luis L. Saligumba and PNP Special Action Force deputy director, Chief Supt. Getulio P. Leo Napenas, emerged as the Team Aggregate Champion, out pointing their competitors from the AFP General Headquarters, the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, BJMP and PSG.

Gen. Bartolome emerged as the champion in the 4-Star Category while Sarmiento also topped the 3-Star Category. Pagdilao was the 1st Runner-Up in the 2-Star Category while Saligumba emerged as the 1st Runner-Up in the 1-Star Category.

The Battle of the Generals organized by National Capital Region Police Office chief, Director Alan LM Purisima, was participated in by star-rank officials from the PNP, the Army, PSG, Air Force, BJMP and the Navy.

President Aquino, an avid gun enthusiast also showed his gun prowess during the shooting event organized to further foster camaraderie among generals in the uniformed service.
