Practice on geology to be regulated

THE House of Representatives has approved on second reading a bill regulating the practice of geology.

House Bill 5640 authored by Zamboanga del Sur Rep. Victor Yu and A-Teacher Rep. Mariano Piamonte was intended for updating and upgrading  the profession as well as re-define and expand the scope of its practice.

The bill aims to hasten the training and development of competent, virtuous, productive and multi-skilled geologists.

The bill is the creation of Professional Regulatory Board of Geology that shall supervise and regulate the practice of geology profession in the Philippines.

It aims to institute provisions which are consistent with  the provisions of R. A. 8981 or the PRC Modernization Act of 2000 and to  recognize that the practice of geology may also be considered as government service.

Piamonte said that with the creation of the PRBG, it will empower the accredited professional organization and its role in the regulation of its professionals.

This will open the opportunity of employment in government service and teaching of geology subjects in the practice of the profession as well as supervision of construction works requiring knowledge in geology.   Jester Manalastas
