WHO’S minding the preparations for the 2013 elections?
This was the question posed by former Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert Ace Barbers to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on the seeming delay in the announcement on what voting system to use in next year’s mid-term elections.
Barbers, Nacionalista Party (NP) stalwart and spokesman, appealed to the Comelec to speed-up its decision process on what technology to use in the coming 2013, whether it would adopt the same Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) or would shift to another voting method like the Central Count Optical Scan (CCOS).
“Perhaps in the next coming weeks, the poll body under the able stewardship of Commissioner Brillantes, would already know what technology to use and subsequently conduct formal pre-qualification and actual bidding very soon,” said Barbers.
The former congressman and governor said while he appreciates the announcement of Comelec early this week that it would “start planning early” the bidding process, such promise is still bereft of a definite timeframe.
