LEYTE Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, leader of the House Independent Minority bloc, yesterday lauded Speaker Belmonte, for giving the green light to the joint probe into the Mamasapano incident.
In a statement, Romualdez  said the probe will provide answers to many questions behind the Oplan Exodus.
“This is a good move in our quest for justice and determine the truth behind unanswered questions on the Mamasapano carnage. We laud the Speaker for allowing Congress to continue on its mandate to determine the truth,” Romualdez, a lawyer and president of the Philippine Constitution Association (Philconsa), stressed.
Earlier, Romualdez opposed the resumption of hearings of the 75-man ad hoc panel on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) without continuing the joint probe into the Mamasasano incident.
House Majority Leader and Mandaluyong City Rep. Neptali “Boyet” Gonzales II said the resumption of the probe was reached following a series of meetings attended by Belmonte, Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez and him with majority of 120 lawmakers who signed a resolution calling for the resumption of the Mamasapano probe.
“This goes to show that the House leadership is sensitive and listening to the sentiments of our colleagues,” Gonzales said.
For his part, Belmonte said the Mamasapano probe would touch on things that have not been covered by the Board of Inquiry (BoI) of the PNP and the Senate investigation.
“The inquiry will not touch matters that have been discussed and covered by other investigating bodies so as not to waste our time,” Belmonte said.
