A FORMER member of the Manila Police District (MPD) was killed after shooting it out with his former colleagues, who were serving him an arrest warrant in Tondo, Manila, the other day.
PO2 Gilbeys Navoa, 40, of 400-C Capulong St., Tondo, died instantly due to a bullet wound in the chest.
Information gathered by prober SPO1 Joseph Kabigting of the Manila Police District (MPD)-Crimes Against Persons Investigation Section (CAPIS) showed that the incident took place at around 4:15 p.m. at the Capulong Riverside near the suspect’s home.
Station Intelligence and Follow-Up Section members of the MPD-Station 1, led by one Senior Insp. Edwin Fuggan, reportedly went to the area after Navoa’s whereabouts were tipped off to the police by an informant.
The warrant was issued by Judge Alfredo Ampuan of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 40 where the suspect is said to be facing a case of robbery.
The cops were approaching the suspect when the latter allegedly pulled out his gun and fired at their direction, prompting the police to shoot back, hitting him fatally. The suspect was rushed to the hospital to no avail.
Records show that in April last year, Navoa was charged with robbery, along with one PO1 Emmanuel Danao, formerly assigned at the Regional Police Holding Administrative Unit (RPHAU) of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), in connection with the alleged holdup of victim France Medalla, 21, of 451 Parola Compound, Tondo, Manila, and Reynaldo Orosco, 30, of Isla Puting Bato, also in Tondo.
The victims were said to be walking when the two cops accosted and frisked them, took their money and then told them to walk away. The victims went straight to the MPD-General Assignment and Investigation Section (GAIS) and filed a complaint.
