More than 100 workers hurt in Cavite factory fire

MORE than 100 workers on Wednesday were injured when a fire razed a factory inside the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) in General Trias City, Cavite.

Most of the victims were brought to the Divine Grace Medical Center in Bacao, General Trias, Cavite  and the General Trias Pediatric Hospital in Bgy. Tejero for treatment.
   
The fire started at 5:15 p.m.  inside the  House Technology Industries Pte Ltd. located at PEZA, Bacao-2 in General Trias City.
   
The HTI is a Japanese manufacturing plant specializing in assembly of pre-fabricated housing construction materials and production technologies.
   
The fire broke out at the second floor of the HTI plant site located in the boundaries of the Cavite Ecozone in Rosario  and General Trias City.
   
The Calabarzon Office of Civil Defense–Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said neighbors of the manufacturing plant heard a loud explosion from the ground floor of the building followed by a fire that immediately engulfed the plant.
   
Firefighters from Rosario and General Trias City immediately responded to contain the blaze.
   
Members of the Philippine National  (PNP) also rushed to the site to provide security and direct traffic inside and outside of the  PEZA.
   
The fire was declared under control by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) at 2 a.m. yesterday.

Authorities are investigating what caused the fire.
