UCSAA crown to MLQU

The Manuel Luis  Quezon University (MLQU)  Stallions, headed by  coach  Jinino Manansala and manager Jomar Acuzar,  are this year’s UCSAA men’s basketball champions. MANUEL  Luis  Quezon University  brought down  St.  Dominic Savio College, 71-68,  to capture  the  title in the sixth UCSAA men’s basketball  tournament at the Casa Milan  gym  in Quezon City.

Gian  Rivera,  Jayson Grimaldo, Jaymark Mallari and Ronnie Pangan  provided the  clutch baskets for the  Stallions, who   completed a 2-0 sweep  of  their best-of-three  title showdown. MLQU defeated  St. Dominic, 80-74 in the opener.

“I’m very happy to win the UCSAA title  right in  our debut in  the  league,” said  MLQU coach Jinino Manansala.

It  was  the four straight title for Manansala after leading St. Clare College-Caloocan   to the   NAASCU  senior and junior  crowns  and MILCU basketball tournament.

Rivera  and  Grimaldo scored 14 points  apiece for the Quiapo-based team  supported by New San Jose Builders and Victoria Sports.
   
Mallari and Pangan  contributed  11 points apiece for the Stallions of  manager  Jomar Acuzar.
   
Assisting Manansala on bench are JR  Manansala, Jed Villena  and Jeric Baylen.
   
Ranier Carpio is  team consultant .
   
Yao Bautista and Lennon Lithuania carried the fight for SDSC with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
   
The other members of the team were  Nikko Lap, Allen Dela Cruz, John Paul Baliday, Sultan Macalangcom, Justin Padua, Reggie Ignacio and Daryl Aurelio.
